Let's get reflective this Christmas and think about giving and receiving.
When people ask you what you want for Christmas or your Birthday, what do you say? Do you give it much thought, or do you just fob them off?
I think it's worth putting some thought into the question, and the reason is that there is as much pleasure, or more, in giving to loved ones as there is in receiving from them. If you can indicate the type of gift that would make you happy you will increase their pleasure because they will know what they give you will be acceptable and bring you pleasure.
Ask the question of yourself - what about me allowing them the joy of giving to me by helping them with the selection?
The whole package involves giving and receiving gifts, and giving and receiving joy on the occasion.
Most of us love to give, and see the pleasure on the recipient's face. The hard thing for some of us is to allow others the real joy of giving by really entering into the joy of receiving.
